The Monday Mood: USPS Drama = Exhausted

Is anyone else unable to keep up with the drama?

Drama follows every U.S. president, but Donald Trump's administration is on another level.

The stories surrounding the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) have been a whirlwind. For a while now, the USPS has been struggling financially. Its financial instability has led to Trump appointing Louis DeJoy as the new Postmaster General.

NYT: Who Is Postmaster General Louis DeJoy?

According to the New York Times, DeJoy is a major Trump supporter with significant investments in USPS competitors. Since June, DeJoy's connections have raised eyebrows around both his appointment and recent changes to USPS service. These changes include "eliminating employee overtime, removing mail-sorting machines from postal facilities around the country and reorganizing or eliminating Postal Service leadership." Although DeJoy argues the shakeups are essential to the future health of the USPS, some have noticed a significant slowing of mail service.

So, what's really the problem?

Slower mail may not normally be a big deal. During a pandemic, however, it could interfere with the upcoming U.S. presidential election. In an effort to avoid contracting COVID-19, a number of Americans want to use mail-in ballots leading up to November. Given the high stakes of this election, it's understandable why many fear voter suppression and why Trump's administration is under scrutiny AGAIN.

Whether you're a Trumpster or a Biden supporter, you have to admit that all of this news is a lot...

That's why our Monday Mood is exhausted.
